Antique American sterling silver large footed water pitcher in the First French Empire style. The body is decorated with repousse acanthus leaf pattern and beaded rims. Under the spout, there is an applied figural devil mask. Scroll hollow handle features swan's head, accented with foliate and floral motifs. There is also an incredibly detailed ram's head under the handle. Pitcher has an engraved inscription "Mary Lafon to Emma Powell Allen Sept. 21. 1911" on the bottom. Made by Anthony Rasch & Co., Philadelphia, PA c. 1810-1815.
This impressive, extraordinary pitcher is 5 3/4" in top diameter, 4 1/2" in base diameter, 10 3/4" from spout to handle, 14 1/4" tall and weighs 1,518 grams or 48.96 ozs Troy.
The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
