Continental European Baroque style large candlesticks , 11 LOoth silver, late 18th - early 19th Century.
Each of these impressive candlesticks is marked 11 Loth for the silver content. We suspect that they may have been undermarked to avoid taxes, as they test for 800 silver and polish up very nicely. They do not have the dark cast that 11 Loth silver would have.
The previous owner had them filled with plaster and there are a couple of spots where an old repair can be seen upon close examination. Overall, they are in excellent condition and have removable bobeches.
These impressive and very usable candlesticks stand 15 1/2" tall and are 8" across the feet at their bases. The pair weighs a total of 4561 grams or 146.6 ozs. Troy, including the plaster filling.
The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The very good original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no monograms, removals, or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering. The small repairs are indicated above and in no way detract from the appearance or usefulness of these very desirable candlesticks.
