American Colonial coin silver lidded tankard by the esteemed and renown silversmith Richard Van Dyck of New York, c.1740-1750. This magnificent tankard features a slightly tapered straight sided body with a mildly flared threaded base and upper rim. The hinged lid features an inset 1707 Queen Anne coin surrounded by an engraved border featuring scroll work, laurels, and flowers. The outer rim of the tankard features a cut scroll form accent with minor engraved decorations. The attached Onslow thumb piece adds to the appeal of this special tankard. The large handle features an applied cornucopia of fruit with a dangling bunch of grapes. The bottom of the handle features a ram′s head accent. Monogrammed MIT in ornate block script. Marked with Van Dyck′s makers mark on the body on each side of the handle. This stunning tankard measures 8 3/4" across the handle, 5 3/4" wide, 7 9/16" tall, and weighs 40.6 ozt. This magnificent tankard features a molded rim, bead mid-band, and molded baseband, Flange turned down on the molded flattened lid with turned and flame finial. Scroll handle, disk at lower joining, large disk tip; turned drop from the hinge, scroll thumbpiece. Engraved "oz.34:5" on the bottom. Later inscribed "C" on the side at the right of the handle. Script monogram "THD" on the handle. Features William Holmes′s maker mark on the left of the handle. This stunning tankard measures 8" across the handle, 5 9/16" wide, 9" tall, and weighs 34.1 ozt. English sterling silver sealing wax cylinder, seal, match and taperstick safe with striker and taper stick holder by Samuel Jacob having a full set of London Hallmarks for 1896. This scarce and desirable combination sealing wax tool has a long chamber for the sealing wax with a domed V notched topped hinged cap having a man in 16th Century attire as a finial. The short chamber for the matches and tapersticks has a flat topped hinged cap used as a seal, with the initials LIG. The cylinder rests on two elongated ball feet and the striker is on the cylinder atop the short match chamber. The nozzle for the mini taperstick sits just behind the striker. The body of the cylinder has bands ofalternating scroll and floral and swirling fluted Repousse decorations. Both hinges are clean and tight and both caps open and close properly and securely. Weighing 38 grams or 1.2 ozs. Troy, this superb cylinder is 9 1/4" long and 1/2" in diameter. It would make the perfect gift for the person who has almost everything. American Arts and Crafts style hand made, hammered tablespoon by Theodore Hanford Pond of Baltimore Maryland. A writer, lecturer, educator, craftsman, and museum director, Theodore Pond attended Pratt Institute from 1888 to 1892. He subsequently designed glass for Tiffany Studios, held various academic positions, including teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design, and directed the Pond Applied Arts Studios from 1911 to 1914. Core to his belief was that metalsmiths should be able to execute their pieces from beginning to end. What he did make was all done by hand, by himself. As such, his pieces are hard to find. This very desirable spoon is 8 3/8" long and weighs 68 grams or 2.2 ozs. Troy. It is marked Sterling, Pond and has the KWO-NE-SHE hand wrought Dragonfly mark. KWO-NE-SHE is Chippewa for dragonfly, and was used in Longfellow′s Song of Hiawatha. It retains its wonderful hammered finish and has a contemporary Arts and Crafts style monogram: LBP on the front of the handle. English sterling silver and whalebone Toddy ladle, c.1770. A nice Toddy ladle with a 1762 1/4 Guinea Love Token gold coin mounted in the center of the cauldron shaped bowl. The back of the strap handle is monogrammed in period block letters: B over W*S. The twist handle is in excellent condition, with the original silver tip present. There is the ubiquitous old repair where the handle mounts to the bowl. The 1/4 Guinea is a scarce gold coin, only being minted in 1718 and 1762 and was valued at the time @ 5 Shillings and 3 Pence. 5s 3d from 1762 is worth £30.60 using the retail price index £417.00 using average earnings. This interesting Toddy ladle is 13 1/2" long and weighs 42 grams or 1.4 ozs. Troy.
